Is Dreamhost killing their affiliate program? Will other webmasters or bloggers continue to promote them instead of other programs for $0 until they pay back what that audit considers you now owe?

You are receiving this message because we have noticed a problem
affecting your account.  Unfortunately, it appears that we have had a bug
in our rewards system that has been ongoing until a recent audit of our
rewards program.  As it says in the panel, for every dollar you give to
the person you refer, one dollar is removed from your total $97 reward.
This bug however was still giving you $47 for any discounts that were
above $50, which is obviously incorrect.  We are very sorry and
embarrassed about this mistake and unfortunately we do need to claim the
extra rewards back.  We believe we have a fair way of reclaiming the
extra money distributed as a result of this bug that was there for just
over two years.  Here are the details:

So we are just said we now owe them a certain amount, with no explanation of how that amount was calculated? I went to my account and saw each one of those deductions but no information about what coupon problems happened for each of those transactions. We now have a negative balance and they will withold 25% of each future payment until balance is positive again.

Most other programs already pay more than they, because if you don’t give a promotional coupon (taken out of your commission) almost no one will signup under you, or will not be happy with you when they discover they could have received a nice discount but because you wanted all the money for yourself they paid more… I always gave the best discount possible, receiving low commissions (and sometimes $0!!!), and now they want some money back?

If Dreamhost made a mistake they should accept that, not asking for money years after… when they pay for advertisement they won’t ask their money back if they made less money than expected, it’s to be written as a business expense / loss.

While my balance is negative expect no further promotion from me, and I sent A LOT of new customers.
